18 Friends Tee Shirts as of January 19th, 2010! Friends of Hakalau Forest Tee shirts are still available; there are 18 left. Our akiapōla’au logo is on the back, with Friends of Hakalau Forest, NWR lettering & koa leaf on the front. Crew neck tee shirts are in Tan & Blue Spruce in sizes M & L only. The Friends Board has decided not to reorder in the near future. Inventory BALANCE as of 1/19/10: Crew Sand, 4 M, 7 L; Crew Blue Spruce, 4 M, 3 L. Photos are below (click to enlarge-you can see the colors, the logo and the front detail). Price for tee shirts: $15 each. Mailing cost is $4.95 for up to 3 tee shirts (mailed to the same address). Hakalau Forest Birds Bandanas available for purchase. Friends of Hakalau Forest bandanas are available at $8.00 each. Art work is by Bill Aoki and features the akepa, I’iwi, Hawaiian Creeper and the Akiapōla’au (within the Friends logo) on a yellow bandana. Bandana measures 22” X 22” and is 100% cotton. If purchasing without Friends tee shirt(s) mailing cost to one address: 1-2 bandanas, $2.00; 3-10, $4.95. Your order will be mailed first class or flat rate Priority via USPS. curriculum that encourages inquiry & brings actual field science to the classroom.
The video shows various types of measurements done on one of the native forest birds (I’iwi)
while the curriculum has appropriate grade level suggested classroom activity enabling students
to experience & answer questions similar to what a researcher asks in his or her field research.
This was a project done by graduate student Cathy Kuntz and was filmed at Hakalau Forest NWR with
several Big Island teachers. Friends of Hakalau Forest Water Tank Fundraiser The Water Tank Fundraiser has been ongoing for a year now and it’s been encouraging and rewarding to see how many of you have donated. Thank you ever so much. Where we are now: More than half way there! We are at $5,000 as of today 1/14/2010. I am hopeful we will continue to receive donations through 2010 and just maybe we can have that water tank up and full by this time next year. Thank you again. Each and every donation is appreciated.
